The Hoyas are a Ted Talk on consistency. They've won seven consecutive conference titles, a credit to culture the head coach Kevin Warne has cultivated on the Hilltop.
But there’s no doubt the class of the Big East is longing for more. Georgetown has yet to fully break onto the scene nationally, falling in the NCAA Quarterfinal in three consecutive years.
Powered by yet another splash transfer class and top recruiting class, I'm not just optimistic the Hoyas can finally get to the Final Four - I’m predicting them to win the whole thing.
.
The Hoyas have one of the most complete rosters in the country.
Elite goalie? Check.
Rising star faceoff man? Check.
Dangerous attack unit? Check.
Stud #1 defender? Check.
Deep midfield unit? Check.
There’s not a ton of question marks with the Hoyas, especially after they answered their biggest one in the off-season by adding Colgate transfers Liam Connor and Rory Connor. The brothers will help replace the production lost from All-American Aidan Carroll as Liam gives the Hoyas a plug-and-play X attackman while Rory is a lefty slasher that Georgetown has lacked in previous years.
On the right side, Jack Ransom looks to take another step forward in his sophomore year after tallying 31 goals as a freshman, but man oh man was I excited to watch Jack Schubert last season before he went down with injury. Schubert flashed as a freshman towards the end of 2024 and was my pick to be the breakout star of last season. If he can return to the form he was in, he'll give the Hoyas an assertive dodging presence that can play anywhere on the field.
The midfield group is the most compelling unit to me, however. There’s no shortage of talent here. Kevin Miller, Joe Cesare, Jordan Wray and Patrick Crogan all had double digit points in 2025 while lefty Lucas Dudamaine became a top threat for Georgetown towards the end of the year. Ben Firlie and Owen Horning made impact plays as freshmen, and throw in the athleticism and shooting ability of 5-star recruit Jake Bickel, and the point is this: Georgetown has the capability to run three productive midfield units like Notre Dame did on their way to the title in 2024.
There isn’t a true alpha midfielder in this group, but if they’re able to get production from three potential midfield lines, that balanced scoring would make up for it.
Junior Ty Banks has continued his steady rise as one of the top defenders in the country after earning Big East Defensive Player of the Year, but the biggest revelation of the 2025 season was the emergence of a second star defender: Robert Plath. As a freshman, Plath racked up 27 caused turnovers and was named to the All-Big East Second Team.
It’s rare you find a team with two shutdown cover men, but that’s exactly what the Hoyas have on their hands in 2026. It helps that the two have different play styles; Banks is a hard-hitting righty that can match up with a more physical dodger while Plath is a technical lefty with the footwork to keep up with the jitterbug dodgers.
The offense has been the talk of the off-season for the Hoyas, but perhaps just as much of a talking point is their defense anchored by Banks and Plath in front of a talented goalie in Anderson Moore.
Biggest Question Marks
I can talk about a team winning on paper all I want, but you don’t get over the hump until you get over the hump. For the Hoyas, that means playing to the level of expectation in the regular season and winning an eight straight conference title but then taking it up a notch in the postseason, something they've failed to do in previous years. Will 2026 be more of the same, or will it finally be the year they rise to the occasion?
who steps up at ssdm?
Captain Joe Vranzian is back leading the unit, but Jack Erb and Michael Haus, two key pieces, are gone. Expect junior James Carroll and sophomore Chase Picard to take another step forward after seeing action last season while the athleticism of freshman Johnny Price could be a difference maker in the middle of the field. But is this unit capable of holding up against the top competition?
