Best In Class Standouts: Men's 2029
The Best In Class 2029s competed in what was likely their first "showcase" event. As they begin the fall in preparation for their first spring...
With crisp air, a tight schedule, and a one-day stage, the BIC Fall Showcase demanded quick decisions and execution. The 2028s and 2029s delivered exactly that. Between returning talents showing new layers to their game and emerging names stepping into the spotlight, this group made the most of every rep. Here’s a look at some additional evaluations our BIC staff had after a deep dive on the film:
Ferrucci is strong player that showed the ability to shoot through pressure, scoring multiple times. As a ball carrier, Ferrucci protects the ball well and makes good decisions. He operated most frequently at X throughout the day, displayinh an ability to play with his head up and score in a variety of ways. Whether it was a 1v1 dodge up the hash or playing in the two-man game Ferrucci has a knack for getting topside.
McDonald brings a nice blend of speed and quickness. He uses a quick first step behind the cage to gain an advantage and excels when turning the corner at GLE. One of the more impressive aspects of his game is how lets the game come to him. Operating from X, he primarily dodged on shots out of bounds, and when the offense is flowing, he quickly gets the ball to the backside. In the two-man game, he is able to generate an advantage and consistently made the correct read, leading to assists and goals for himself and his team.
Kasselakis was one of the most productive players at the Fall Showcase. As a ball carrier, he uses his quickness to handle pressure while keeping his head up, dishing out multiple assists. Off-ball, he times his cuts well and drifts to dangerous spots where he can score from. He had good presence in the ride, hustling, causing turnovers, and securing groundballs. He has a polished shot, both on the run and with his feet set, and did a great job finishing the ball. He capped off the day with a standout performance in the All-Star Game.
Troy is a savvy player, combining quickness with IQ to make plays. In the two-man game, Troy did a great job drawing the short-stick and quickly attacking before the defense could get set to his strong left hand. He sets up dodges on his terms by bouncing away, changing pace with some shake that helps him get his hands free for a shot. While he is not the biggest player on the field, he plays with toughness and physicality to make up for it.
Paltos shined as a guy who can consistently beat his man, draw slides, and make good decisions with the ball. He's willing to dodge either way, keeping defenders guessing. He has a polished shooting stroke both on the run and with his feet set. Athletically, Paltos has a good motor, good speed, and a quick first step that aid him offensively as a dodger and defensively when covering the ball.
Pantelidis stood out with his ability to impact both sides of the ball. His speed and quick burst ability make him a big threat as a dodger. Defensively, he combines his athleticism with good timing to cause turnovers and he plays hard all the way through the whistle. As he works to develop his off-ball IQ on offense and his shooting ability out of the dodge, he will become a headache for defenses to cover.
Condron has a great ability to get to the heart of the defense. He has a good frame, speed, and quickness. He has a well-rounded arsenal of dodges, using hesitation moves, change of pace, and physicality while dodging. He moves well off-ball when the ball is up top, either fading to a shooting spot, following a dodger, clearing through, or operating in the two-man game. He releases the ball quickly when his hands are free, and often finds a way to increase his shooting angle. There is a lot to like about Condron's offensive skillset.
McKeon had an impressive day. He did everything well from taking wings, clearing the ball, riding, taking defensive runs, to playing offense. He has a good frame and a great motor. McKeon uses a quick first step to beat defenders. He has a great left-to-left split and excelled when sweeping across the top, often getting to great shooting spots or drawing slides. As a guy that can impact the game in many ways, he will be someone to keep an eye on going forward.
McCracken is a well rounded athlete, using his strength to be physical on both offense and defense. He has a powerful righty shot, and operates best when he can run into his dodge. Notably, he showed willingness to dodge to his weak hand and shoot, something that many young players often avoid. He is reliable in the clear, using his body to protect his stick. His athleticism stands out, and as his skills continue to develop, he’s poised to make significant strides in his game.
Hayden had a great showing at the Fall Showcase. He has a great presence off-ball, consistently making good slide decisions with great technique. He has a big frame, and while he is not the fastest player, he makes up for it with efficient footwork, good angle play, and great stick discipline on ball. He also showcased a very reliable ability to carry the ball and escape pressure, highlighted by a behind the back split in tight space that led to a fast break.
Mejia III is a very athletic player with great speed and lateral movement. When he has the ball, he has a natural ability to escape pressure and make good decisions. When playing the ball in space, he makes use of his lateral quickness and footwork to pressure the ball and force turnovers. His ability to get the ball off the ground was impressive, showcasing an ability to secure tough first time grounds balls and to goose the ball to space for himself.
Lamberson is a tall, rangey defender standing at 6''4'. Off-ball, he has a good posture and stance with good technique; he flips his hips when he should, has his head on a swivel, and he supports the backside of the defense. On-ball, he plays with his stick out, sits in a low stance, and will get physical with dodgers when needed. He can handle the ball through traffic and is good off the ground, but he will need to learn to make better decisions with the ball. Lamberson checks many boxes off and has a high ceiling.
DeFusco is an athletic, rangey left-handed pole. His off-ball defense is noteworthy, as he’s always in a strong, athletic stance and ready to react, supporting the interior and committing to slides. He is good off the ground, and has a great presence between the lines. Whether it is off the wing, in the ride, or in the clear, DeFusco has a knack for finding the ball and making plays.
Myslinski had a fantastic day between the pipes, making multiple show-stopping saves on the doorstep. He joins quick hands, a patient playstyle, and good footwork to make even difficult saves look routine. When shooters have a low angle, he uses his stick to bait the shooters with a good bit of success. As he continues to work towards consistency with his outlet passes, his stock will continue to rise.
