Best In Class Standouts: Women's 2029

The class of 2029 burst onto the scene at Best In Class. As they head into their freshman years of high school, this was the first "showcase" experience for many of these athletes. Where better to do it than Best In Class. While it was a talented group all around, let's take a look at who stood out.

 

Attack

#60 caroline kmetz | rye | primetime

Kmetz checked all the boxes at BIC. She works very well with her teammates. She is a good initiator and a great finisher. She stood out with her grittiness and compete. She made a ton of unselfish plays, rode hard, and was nonstop. Coaches praised her as the first person to give credit to her teammates if she herself scores.

#121 michaela grever | st. anthony's | 91 roar

Grever exploded and put herself in the discussion for the top player at camp. She's a tall strong lefty who simply creates. She can dodge, get underneath, take topside and consistently scored low angle shots. She uses deception very well to manipulate the defense. She has a deep arsenal. She is great at finding the open player after drawing a slide, and has the ability to split double teams.

Michaela Grever
#91 jordan rasmussen | penfield | aces elite

Rasmussen is a lefty that demonstrated dodging prowess. She excelled on the draw in what was a deep draw group. One coach had her in discussion for one of the best draw takers at camp. Can consistently beat her defender, and she rode hard. Off the ball, she displayed good spacing, and timed cuts well. Finishing wise she was fantastic, scoring at an extremely high clip.

#114 taylor webb | fox lane | primetime

Webb is a tall, left handed player that sits well in the pocket. She's super coachable and often looking to create for others. Her dodging stood out, not for the speed, but for how she can use deception and manipulation well to draw slides. Plays with her head up consistently and makes great feeds, can turn the corner well and finish. She showed good balance between feeding and dodging for her own shot, which isn't always easy in these environments.

#67 nicole manolakes | ward melville | yellow jackets

Manolakes shines with her dodging. She possesses a strong shot and good placement. Had some strong goals from range, and athletically is strong. As she continues to fine tune shot selection and facilitating the offense, she will be a big time threat for years to come.

#26 annie deluca | sanford School | nxt

DeLuca is a versatile lefty. She played well in transition, limited mistakes and displayed good IQ. One of the few players recognized for her ability to play the 2 man game. She's one of those attackers that can play multiple roles and will be exciting to see how that develops for her in the coming years.

Midfield

#28 Juliet diorio | south side hs | team 91 roar

Diorio is a stud with a high motor. Great speed, hustles, GB machine, really smart and patient with checks. Almost baits for backcheck and is very successful. Quick first step. Great on both sides of the ball. Coaches felt she made the biggest impact on her squad.

#98 lucy schardt | agnes irwin  | nxt black

Schardt dominated the draw and made plays in so many ways. Good size, great first step off the draw, won many draws to herself. She thrived in the 2 man game, and is fundamentally strong. She was very good offball, is a high IQ player and let the game come to her while being super productive.

#93 avah robinson | miller place | team 91 roar

Robinson's speed was on display. She consistently weaves through the defense with ease. Hustles non stop, plays the entire field very well. Defensively, she get knockdowns, forces turnovers, and is good all around. She takes the draw as well (without a draw stick). She can punt return clears and is an alpha on the field.

#101 kelty shea | darien middle school | sound lacrosse

Very athletic, speedy player. Can get up and down the field, great between the 30s, gets a ton of GB's, can consistently get to great spots on offense. She always gets to the middle of the field. Made her presence felt. Great defensively, makes a ton of plays on and offball.

#10 piper brawley | charlotte country day | yellow jackets/ultimate

Brawley was clutch on the draw, and was a dynamic 2 way midfielder. She had interceptions on D, full field coast to coast goals, super tall and fast midfielder. Lethal dodger down the middle, almost an auto goal if she has it in transition. Can use both hands, and is a team player that will make the right decisions.

#44 kylee gallagher | jamesville-dewitt | monster elite 29 / orange crush 28

Great speed on the draw circle, had many high grabs. Great IQ on both sides of the field, slides were excellent, strong shot and great finisher. Speed through the midline, and decision making made her standout in the middle of the field.

#76 isabella miller | ncms | M&D Black 

Miller caught eyes on her ability to fire a good alley shot and outside shot. Great on defense, stick is always in the lane. Did very good in player down drills, displaying her speed. She strikes a great balance of beating her players off the dodge consistently, getting downhill, and setting her teammates up.

Defense

#18 kasey clegg | harborfields hs | long island top guns

Clegg put herself in the discussion of best defender here. Super athletic, stick is always up, pressures outside of the 8 and 12 on hands. Reminded her coach of Katie Goodale. Hustle plays, great off the ground. Great stickwork, blends in with the offense in drills due to stickwork, and just does it all.

#99 katelyn schoenwetter | notre dame prep | coppermine

Really good IQ, super vocal, leader on the field, great 1v1 defender, great timing on slides, fast feet inside the 8 and in the clear. Good stickwork for a defender. Stood out as leader of her defense.

#52 joanie hirst | thoreau middle school | m&d DC

Hirst was strong guarding offball players. She cut off attackers and covered cutters well. She's a very fast and quick player. As she improves her 1v1 on ball defense, she will complete her defensive game.

#34 taylor errante | cns | monster elite purple

Errante was really aggressive, played strong 1v1 defense, displayed her IQ with smart and well timed slides. As she fine tunes her stick work and handles she will be in a great spot headed into high school.

#113 emily wang | seneca ridge MS | M&D DC Black

Wang showed all the tools. She was great 1v1, notably around the crease. She had great speed and strength, showing the speed in transition. Her stick skills and clearing ability were on display. She showed nice IQ, good slide timing, and impactful defense on the crease. As help defense continues to be a focus, she will continue to rise.

Emily Wang

#53 madison hite | middlesex ms | ct grizzlies

Hite was a stout presence in the clear and displayed strong 1v1 on ball defense. In support roles, she made some timely slides. Coaches praised her coachability. Improving off the ball on cutters is her path to becoming a complete defender.

Goalie

#19 samantha cohen | the rhoades school | mad dog west elite

Cohen had a strong outing. She's bouncy in cage but she makes it work for her. She has a great presence in cage and she makes a lot of leg saves because she has just an explosive steps. Coaches felt she had good IQ on when to chase out a ball versus remain in cage. As she tightens up some footwork on following through her step, she is going to put herself in a great spot heading into high school.

#46 lily gentile | nesaquake middle school | team 91 roar

Gentile made her presence felt early and often. The lefty is good in the clear, makes many doorstep saves and can stack saves on a single possession. Lily is a great communicator in cage, is active, and commands the defense. She has great feet and gets pipe to pipe extremely well. Coaches noticed her inside play - in tight she plays a high arc which she uses to well to her advantage.

#6 ivy bostley | american heritage | madskillz/florida select

Ivy was fun to watch. It's evident how much she loves the game of lacrosse. She displayed a willingness to put her whole body on the line no matter how fast or close the shot is. She steps laterally and loves to make the hard saves. She bailed her defense out of a lot of down the middle shots, stopping them point blank. As she keeps working on her poise in the clearing game, she is going to continue to ascend the ranks.
