Bring on September 1st

Bring on September 1st

To the 2025's, we want to congratulate you on reaching the long-awaited September 1st contact period with colleges and universities! Your hard work has guided you to this moment, so enjoy it and soak it in.

Whether you get 20 calls today or 0 calls, just remember that this is the start of the journey, not the finish. As we keep saying, everyones journey throughout the process is different, so don't compare your September 1st to your friends or teammates (we know it's hard not to, but keep doing your best).

Something that helps through the process is remembering that everything will work itself out. Your commitment might be today, it might be next week, or it might be next summer or fall. The time will come for everyone, so have faith and enjoy this opportunity.

And remember - the real work starts now!

Here are a few questions to consider that we have advised our FCL athletes to think about:

-Culture: How do you develop it? How would you describe your team culture?

-What academic support and any resources you try to provide players off the field ?

-What is your Alumni Network like and what do you do to build connection to your alumni for players?

-What majors and studies do players on the team tend to pursue? Is there anything off the table for an athlete?

-What playstyle do you l aim for, and look for at my position ? How Has that changed over the years?

-Where did you see me play this summer?

-How many players are you looking to bring to campus? What do you expect your timeline to be?

Lastly, this is like an interview. This might be the first time that you are put in a situation like this. That is OK and is how you learn! Parents - these are the lessons of a student-athlete that we think are important to help them learn. You will take this with you far beyond the lacrosse recruitment process, trust me. (I got turned down for 7 internships junior year of college finally to land one on the 8th. This experience prepared me (Deemer).

We hope you found this helpful. We started First Class Lacrosse because we believe in the power player development. We believe you can get exponentially better if you combine a great work ethic with the guidance of knowing what to work on and how to do it. Luckily, we experienced it firsthand as players and coaches. Our goal is to pass on what we have learned and experienced to future generations of lacrosse players, parents, and coaches.
