Recruiting Process Communication

Recruiting Process Communication

September 1st is approaching rapidly. At some point, whether that be on the 1st or later, you will receive a phone call from a coach or write an email to a school you are interested in. Remember, this is a good thing! Here a few simple tips and things to focus on as these opportunities cross your path.

1- build relationships

- Be yourself. Coaches are calling because they want to get to know you. Don't be too uptight or nervous, but also don't be too casual. Find a good balance to lead a good conversation.

- Have questions prepared. Phone calls are a two-way street. Show your appreciation and interest with questions about the program, culture, and school.

2. Tips for emails

- Be to the point. Coaches receive lots of emails, so include the information that is most important, but keep it short and clearly outline your interest in the program.

- Proofread. Too many times kids forget to change the name of the coach or program or include another error that can lead to a bad first impression. These can be easily avoided by a quick read over.

Not only are these communication skills important for the recruiting process, but they will help in the future with job and internship interviews as well.

We believe you can get exponentially better if you combine a great work ethic with the guidance of knowing what to work on and how to do it. Luckily, we experienced it firsthand as players and coaches. Our goal is to pass on what we have learned and experienced to future generations of lacrosse players, parents, and coaches.
